MPD Seeking Community’s Opinion

The Memphis Police Department is working with Response to Resistance to ensure they are protecting the citizens of Memphis with reasonable use of force techniques. This groundbreaking and forward thinking approach of garnering civilian perspective puts the Department at the national forefront of improving police and community relations. Members of the Memphis community may take the survey at www.responsetoresistance.com.

In October of 2016, all MPD officers took the survey and it is now available to the community. The Response to Resistance Survey was created to support the public safety community and aid their efforts to safeguard the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect. The Survey takes about 8 minutes and presents five different scenarios regarding reaction and response to resistance ranging from simply failing to obey an officer’s instruction to use of a knife or firearm against the officer. The results for both law enforcement and civilians will be analyzed and compared to ensure the use of force techniques adopted by the Department match the way in which the community wants to be protected. Participants simply take the survey and enter the Agency Code “MEMCIV17”.

C.E.R.T. Training Class

CERTPlus is excited to announce the next Millington Emergency Preparedness class Saturday April 22 and Saturday April 29. On-line CERT registration is now open at www.certplustraining.org.

This free 2 day class is a special offering as the disaster simulation on the afternoon of April 29th will be exceptional. You don’t want to miss this one! The class will form a team to be joined by former graduates and experienced CERTs. This is a great time to learn along side of those who have gone before. And, the Millington Fire Department Training Center is the best and safest way to face ‘disaster.’

Please join us for a fun and informative session that will prepare you and your family. Feel free to share this with your neighborhood association, church or work. But sign up soon, space is limited!

Join America’s PrepareAthon!

Receiving timely information about weather conditions or other emergency events can make all the difference in knowing when to take action to be safe. Local police and fire departments, emergency managers, the National Weather Service (NWS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and private industry are working together to make sure you can receive alerts and warnings quickly through several different technologies no matter where you are–at home, at school, at work, or in the community.

AutoZone Update

AutoZone recently received approval from the Land Use Control Board to increase the sign height of their planned store at the corner of Kirby Parkway and KirbyGate Blvd from 10 feet to 25 feet. Despite objections by KSANA and Kirby Trace Neighborhood Associations, the LUCB approved an amended request to allow a sign height of 18 feet.

KSANA appealed that decision to the City Council. On February 7th KSANA president Suzanne White spoke to the council, first in committee and later in the full council meeting, on behalf of the association. District 2 Councilman Frank Colvett supported our position and encouraged his fellow council members to do the same.

Verdict: WE WON!! AutoZone’s sign height is limited to 10 feet.
